“Under The Broom Tree” offers a fresh perspective on the incredible life of Elijah, known as the greatest prophet of the Bible, who performed exceptional miracles but was described as an ordinary man.

I discuss the beauty of Elijah’s weakest moment under the broom tree where he asked God to let him die and how from it emerged a beautiful picture of God’s extraordinary, sustaining love for each person. I recall specific life experiences that brought me to the end of my own strength and how God restored me there every time and whispered valuable teachings to my heart, words meant to be shared with everyone.

As a board-certified pediatrician with almost 20 years of clinical experience, I’m no stranger to the mental health epidemic and identity crisis in this current generation. I’ve seen it not only in the faces of my amazing patients over the years but also in myself. I grew up silently dealing with anxiety, depression, and OCD — issues never discussed in the conservative Indian culture of my childhood. During a Bible study in college, I finally learned who Jesus really was. The decision to follow Him changed the course of my life. With many moments under my own broom tree, it’s been a long, and often painful, journey ever since in overcoming self-criticism and creating healthier thought processes.
